Growing in Truth All living things grow. As believers, alive in Christ, we are no exception. We are meant to grow - in truth. Jesus said, "If you continue in my word, then you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free". He also said He would send the Holy Spirit, who would lead us into all the truth. (John 8:31-32, 16:13) The Apostle Paul writes that God's desire is for us to come to the knowledge of the truth. He warns us to not be tossed about by deception. He tells us to grow up in Christ through speaking the truth. Peter also writes that we should long for the word so we may grow in respect to salvation. He warns us not to be led astray by error, but to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. (1 Timothy 2:4; Ephesians 4:14-15; 1 Peter 2:2; 2 Peter 3:17-18) Growth is fundamental to the Christian life. The truth is the means by which we grow. The Holy Spirit is the one who leads us into the truth. The Word of God is the source of the truth. Freedom is the result of growing in the truth. At The Open Door, we encourage believers to continue to grow in truth. We challenge people with the truth so we may be free; free from the clutches of sin, and free from lies, fears, and bondage that would keep us from fully experiencing life. |
